The Mudlark Film

‘MUDLARK’ is a short film about loneliness, friendship, and loss.

Set in Victorian Wales, drawing on Welsh folklore and history, the bittersweet story tells of an orphan who scavenges the riverbank for flotsam and jetsam.

Discovered and taken in by a widowed salmon fisherman, who teaches him how to work a coracle, the boy befriends an old horse. The boy and the horse spend a delightful summer in each other’s company.

But fate plays a large part in our tale. Like the river, which gives as well as it takes, and the tide, which rises and falls, ‘MUDLARK’ alternates between hope and horror, joy and sorrow, kindness and wickedness – and between this world and the next.
